When life hands you lemons…

I’ve been thinking a lot about my why lately. Why am I where I’m at in life? Why do certain things happen to us and not other people? Why are we given opportunities? And, why are those opportunities sometimes taken away?

About a month ago my job was eliminated from the organization I was working for. As soon as I showed up I was told to go home. To say I was completely crushed is an understatement. The next couple of days I went through a major grieving period of days filled with ups and downs. It’s been really hard for me to keep my head up, but I am working on being grateful for this “plot twist”.

I’ve had a lot of time to really evaluate my life and my WHY. While I am still trying to land a new job, one of the things I have been exploring for a while is health coaching. This blog is a creative outlet for me to explore this more and hopefully help a couple of people along the way.

So, when life hands us lemons…Detox! Detox all negative thoughts, feelings and fears. Letting go is much easier said than done. Stress creates toxins. Period. Toxins in our mind. Toxins in our body. Toxins in the relationships around us. Since I have been under a lot of stress, I’ve been really focusing on the things I can change in a positive way:

Lemon Water Cleanse

Drinking warm lemon water every morning before any other food or drink boosts metabolism, reduces toxins and alkalizes our body’s ph levels. It also helps you stay hydrated, which is essential when you’re under deep stress.

Gratitude Journaling

I am so blessed to have a tribe of people in my life who are always supporting me in life. My friend Brittany recommended to me a gratitude journal. It has been night and day in my life. It has completely changed the way I think about this situation and finding the light in a dark room. This is super easy little thing that anyone can do. You just need a notebook, or pad of paper and your favorite writing utensil. Make a note each day on what you’re grateful for and that’s it!

MIND FOOD

The mind is a powerful tool. Did you know we only tap into about 10% of our brains! Well, I’ve been working on some major brain tapping by reading books that inspire me and have given me an emotional safe space.

The book I’m currently reading is Life by the Cup: Inspiration for a Purpose-Filled Life by Zhena Muzyka. Let me tell you, I. love. this. book. It’s all about lessons and simple rituals for finding your life’s purpose, improving your relationships, and becoming healthier—all in the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. Go read it!

Sweating it out

With all this free time on my hands I have a lot more time for the gym. I have been focusing on a couple different workouts ranging from cardio to strength exercises. I absolutely love Heidi Powell and her approach to fitness and health. The resistance band workout has totally transformed my booty. I will be posting some of my own workouts on here too.

laughter

Laughter is medicine! Every morning I have been scrolling through my instagram feed for things that make me smile or laugh. My most recent giggle fix has been following Wawawiwa Design. The author, Andrés, starting creating these comics to give readers a big visual hug that tickles you at the same time.  They’re super cute and a little big cheeky.

I still have a long road ahead of me to heal and find out what the next chapter looks like, but I have so much hope and will be focusing on my health and wellness along the way. Thank you for taking this journey with me.
